Aircraft are designed to fulfill a specific purpose. My goal was to design an airplane that would fulfill the following characteristics: Efficient, long-range, slow, stable and easily controllable. Now that I decided on my design objectives, I designed the wings. I picked an airfoil, calculated the required wing area with a low wing loading (typical for gliders). I introduced a wing dihedral into the design, to allow the airplane to be very stable and smooth in flight. My future end goal of this project is to have an autonomous airplane, which can fulfill data collection or payload delivery missions based GPS waypoints.
